BBQ, Sunshine and Monsters
The weekend started at Sam and Andy's on Saturday evening. We listened to Shpongle and Ott and read Dr Zeus. When everybody disappeared, Dale and I left. After a bried mission in Camden Market, we spent the rest of Sunday on a sunny patio with only a few dinosaurs for company. Here it is more or less fully documented.
Street Capoeira in Camden, London
After a Sunday afternoon in Camden Market, I was about to head home when I walked passed these guys. For some reason, I hadn't felt like taking any pictures that day; but this was to good to ignore. I took about 50 shots of their performance. Here are the good shots.
Football abuse
I like abandoned objects and this one is topical (shot during the FIFA World Cup 2006).
The Hub at the Brudenell Social Club
The Hub were impressive but the real highlight of the night was TrioVD. Mucky Sailor was also very entertaining.
LIMA Orchestra at Fuseleeds06
LIMA's first birthday at the Wardrobe for Fuseleeds06. The LIMA Orchestra were as good as I expected them to be (and this means VERY good). Ken Vandermark and 2 of his Free Fall fellow musicians joined the Orchestra for the second half. Too many saxophones, incendiary grooves, virtuoso performances and excellent song titles (rubber band, pigeons in the attic, um I think you're a semi-tone out...) made this one of the best performances I have ever seen at the Wardrobe. Thank you LIMA and happy birthday!
Mannequins in Little Black Dresses
A few choice pictures from the Little Black Dress exhibition at URBIS in Manchester. Absolutley perfect for black and white shots.
Week end at Nadia's
A weekend at Nadia's in London. Photos were taken the day after my interview at TMG.
David plays at Lucy's
Amazingly, I think this is the first time I ever saw my brother play with a band. I was very impressed.
Spring in the garden
A perfect sunny spring afternoon. I decided to try a series of (kinda) macro flower shots. When the bumblebee arrived, I followed its systematic work through the freshly watered flowers. I don't think it missed any.
The Geordie Approach at The Packhorse
This was one of the best LIMA gigs I've seen so far. I loved the performances of all three musicians. The music was imaginative, sensitive, powerful, funny, angry and more. A great gig and a great band name.
Soiled at The Packhorse
Another great performance by Maria Jardardottir; this time with a more "rocky" minimalistic guitar accompaniment. I especially enjoyed "The Family" (also because it's the only song title I can remember ;) )
Rashomon at The Wardrobe
Rashomon was chaotic, spontaneous and very messy. A bit like 2 bands having an argument about something confusing.
Ogden Water Reservoir
Pictures from a really good walk round Ogden Water Reservoir. It was a beautiful day. There is a wind farm in the area so we went off track to get closer to the great white turbines. A great day!
Punch Drunk Bitch at the Wardrobe
Another Lima event at the Wardrobe in Leeds. The music was as good as ever but unfortunately, turnout was very disappointing. Awesome vocals by Elisabeth and Maria. No shots of Dave Kane or Ståle as they were hidden behind the others (lame excuse).
Endenor at the Holy Trinity Church
This was a while ago. I didn't manage to take any pictures of Ove Volquartz who is the third member of Endenor. Richard Ormrod joined them half way through. This was a short gig in the beautiful acoustics of the Holy Trinity Church.
Minghe Morte at the Wardrobe
It was fantastic to see Minghe Morte at the Wardrobe again. Minghe Morte is definitely best heard with a good PA! Leeds' "jazz" power trio proved to all present that the jazz world has its darker, dirtier side...
LIMA launch at The Wardrobe
Back in May 2005, LIMA showcased the impressive talent of their collective at The Wardrobe. From that day onwards, I tried to attend all their events and haven't been disappointed yet.
